Synergy Internships Learning + Experience = Growth

Eliana Cortez is on the move. As a student at UW-Oshkosh, she’s a marketing major and Spanish minor, set to graduate in December. This summer she worked two other jobs while working as marketing intern at Synergy Coworking.

“I’ve gained so much from working at Synergy,” she says. “The experience, the people, the opportunities all moved me closer to finding a great job after graduation.”

Cortez moved with her mother and sister from Bolivia to the U.S. when she was 17. She credits her parents for encouraging her professional growth and supporting her ambition. She’s ready to purse a job where she can leverage her strengths – such as proficiency in Spanish – and grow in her career.

Synergy offered Cortez a place to gain new skills, network and be industrious. She created social media, advertising and marketing content. She also worked on the Synergy newsletter, as well as other web content. With Synergy co-owner Eugenia Podesta, she created an event planning toolkit, a tangible product she’ll be able to show potential employers.

“Gina was incredible to work with,” Cortez says. “She was just the right balance between guiding me and giving me wings. Leaving my comfort zone was a big part of the learning process.”

Cortez also had the opportunity to practice event-planning. In addition to many other events, she helped plan and execute one of Synergy’s largest so far – the one-year anniversary celebration in June 2017. Cortez participated every step of the way, from preparation to evaluation. Through Synergy’s many summer events, she connected with business and community leaders, entrepreneurs, and even an international artist.

“Working for Synergy has been a valuable experience that allowed me to apply my education and grow as a professional and as a person,” she says.

Podesta add, “Eliana has been truly valued at Synergy and a pleasure to work with – she rolled up her sleeves ready to get to work on Day 1. We all grow together here and there’s no better way than putting ideas to practice and being open to the contributions of others. That is one of the goals of out internships and our overall culture – collaborative building. We look forward to continuing to work with Eliana and seeing what the future holds for her…”
